Extended Search & Replace
Available for: Single Files and Folders, Window background, Desktop

Extended Search & Replace (X-Replace) is two tools in one. First, it lets you search a particular folder and its subfolders for plain text (ASCII) files containing particular text (or just files whose names match a particular mask). Second, it allows you to replace the specified text with something different in all or any of the found files.

X-Replace provides a powerful way to make global changes to text files (such as web pages) without having to manually edit each one. You can double-click any file found to open it (just as you do in a Windows folder), or right-click it to access its Windows context menu, making X-Replace a useful searching tool even if you don't need to use its text-replace features.

You can also drag files from the list to a folder or the desktop just as you do in Windows, to move, copy or create shortcuts to them, or drag a file into an open application to edit it.

X-Replace includes options to search subfolders of the chosen folder, make case-sensitive searches, use wildcards in the Find and Replace text, make backups of all changed files, and limit the search to files whose names contain specified text (such as files with the '.htm' extension).

You can start X-Replace from its shortcut on the start menu.
